We don’t have many changes since last night’s SnowCast. Here’s a look at forecast snow+sleet accumulations for Friday.
Rain will transition to a wintry mix from west to east early Friday Morning. Western Indiana could see rain switch to freezing rain and sleet as early as 3:00 AM with the transition occurring in Indianapolis around 6:00 AM and in Eastern Indiana around 9:00 AM.
While the freezing rain is not expected to last very long, a light coating (possibly up to a tenth of an inch) of ice/freezing rain is also possible.
The freezing rain will quickly transition to sleet & snow and we are forecasting amounts of 2-4″ of snow for parts from Evansville to Indianapolis to Decatur and points East. A heavier band of snow and sleet (4-7″) is still looking likely from extreme Southeastern Indiana, the Cincinnati area and into Southwestern Ohio. Much of Central Ohio will also likely see 4-7″ of snow & sleet.
Key message: Even with lesser amounts of snow in the forecast for tomorrow, we do expect hazardous and inclement driving conditions with rapidly falling temperatures, a round of freezing rain, sleet and some snow. While conditions will start to deteiorate tomorrow morning, we expect the Friday afternoon and evening commute to be very messy.
